Bosham Sailing Club Classic Revival

Bosham Sailing Club hosted a fabulous weekend of racing for classic day boats and dinghies of various different classes and from many differents parts of the UK.  48 boats entered, including the local fleet and 13 from other clubs, members of the ‘Classic and Vintage Dinghy Racing Association’ and Good Wood Boat’s National Redwing R249.

On Saturday the westerly wind, gusting up to 28 knots for much of the day, provided trying but exhilarating racing.  On Sunday the conditions could not be more different with sun and light winds testing a different set of racing skills.

This exciting and evocative event was an excellent opportunity to race our Redwing and  enjoy the camaraderie of like minded sailors.  Thankyou Bosham Sailing Club for your hospitality and for putting on such an excellent event.

Beale Park Boat Show Report

Good Wood Boat exhibted two clinker dinghies at the 2011 Beale Park boat Show.   Wooden Tideway TW233 a restoration project nearing completion and a new build – National Redwing R249.

The Tideway was exhibited to illustrate the quality of varnish finish that can be achieved following non-caustic chemical stripping of the original coating.  TW233 has also had her timbers replaced and a number of plank splits and rot spots repaired.  These repairs were highlighted using labels, as were our custom made buoyancy blocks which we manufacture to suit the wooden Tideway and other classic dinghies.

Redwing Trials in the Lake District

Redwing on UllswaterYesterday we sailed our latest National Redwing on Ullwater in the Lake District.  It was an exhilarating sail which yielded some superb photographs for our 2011 brochure.  The day was also an opportunity to conduct trails and tune the boat for competition.  If you would like to book a test sail contact Stephen at Good Wood Boat.

Redwing exhibited at National Maritime Museum Cornwall

Good Wood Boats National Redwing R249 has been exhibited at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall during August.  The caption describing the exhibit was “A Cornish thoroughbred designed by a master”.

The exhibit formed the backdrop for the Redwing Class Nationals prize giving, as this year these were held at Falmouth (Restrongent Sailing Club) during Falmouth Classics week.

We intend to race R249 in next years Redwing Nationals at Looe.

We are delighted to announce Good Wood Boat won the Concours d’Elegance trophy at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show this weekend.  The trophy was awarded to our National Redwing R249 for the best presented boat at the show.  We were thrilled and delighted to win as it’s a real confirmation of our intent to build eye catching classic racing dinghies that not only race successfully, but also win the admiration of others both on and off the water.
